Charles Margiotta

Director of the National Insider Threat Task Force (NITTF), FBI Special Agent

Director of the National Insider Threat Task Force (NITTF), Charles Margiotta is an FBI Special Agent who previously served as a Deputy Assistant Director in the FBl's Security Division. Director Margiotta entered on duty on 10/26/1996. Upon graduation from Quantico, Director Margiotta was assigned to the Washington Field Office, conducting espionage investigations. 

In March 2000, Director Margiotta transferred to a criminal squad at WFO's Tysons RA, where he investigated numerous Bank, Mortgage and Loan fraud investigations. 

In January 2002, Director Margiotta was assigned to FBIHQ's Enron Task Force. He took part in the investigation of Enron's Broadband Services (EBS), a failed internet division. The U.S. government (USG) was able to return a multiple count indictment of EBS and 5 of its executives for securities fraud, wire fraud and money laundering charges. 

In October 2003, Director Margiotta was promoted to FBIHQ as an Supervisory Special Agent (SSA), where he program managed East Asian Counterintelligence matters throughout the U.S. Director Margiotta was later promoted to SSA in the Atlanta Field Office, supervising East Asian counterintelligence matters throughout the Atlanta AOR. 

In April 2010, Director Margiotta was promoted to a GS-15 Senior Liaison position at CIAHQ, in their East Asia Division's Russia House section. During his assignment, Director Margiotta was involved in the FBl's GHOST STORIES investigation, which resulted in the arrest of 10 Russian SVR Illegals, who had been active in the U.S. for over ten years. 

In August 2011, Director Margiotta was promoted to a Unit Chief position at FBIHQ. During his assignment, Director Margiotta supervised numerous investigations throughout the U.S. involving the activities of Russian Intelligence Officers, including their contacts and travels. 

In September 2012, Director Margiotta arrived to Counerterrorism Division of the FBI as the Assistant Section Chief (ASC) for ITOS I. 

In December 2013, Director Margiotta took over as the WFO CT Branch II ASAC, responsible for Extraterritorial investigations within the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan. In addition, Director Margiotta oversaw WFO's Terrorist's use of the Internet squad.
